Local people also call it as Quynh pagoda. The temple was constructed by the Teacher of the Prince Nguyen Minh Khong in Ly Than Tong dynasty (1116-1138). In the pagoda, a very huge statue of Maitreya Buddha, according to the legend, the statue is 60 feet 6 meter tall (about 19,8m) and was one of the "Four Great Treasures of An Nam". All the works constructed under the Ly had been destroyed, the only remnant of the Ly dynasty was a large stone stelewhich is now standing inside the pagoda precinct.

By the time of Tran Dynasty, under the management of monk Phap Loa, Quynh Lam pagoda became the training center of the Truc Lam sect. He also developed and expanded the pagoda into Quynh Lam monastery with pagoda area, school area and academy area ... and hosts major Buddhist events. Over time, Quynh Lam pagoda had been repeatedly devastated and only remnants left.
In 1997, Quynh Lam pagoda was built by the government and people of Dong Trieu, giving a new appearance including Cung Truc Lam, Bell Tower, Stele House.
Quynh Lam pagoda festival is organized annually from 1st to 4th of February on lunar calendar, attracting vast people and tourists to visit and enjoy the scenery.
