Dong Thai Tomb (Tran Anh Tong's Tomb)
Thai Tomb, also known as Dong Thai Tomb, is the mausoleum of King Tran Anh Tong, the 4th king of the Tran Dynasty, and his father-in-law Thuan Thanh Bao Tu Hoang Dowager. The mausoleum was built in 1320, this is the first mausoleum of the Tran Dynasty built in An Sinh, Dong Trieu. Since then, the Tran kings have chosen Dong Trieu as the place to build their mausoleums.
According to the book of Dai Viet historical records, "December 12, Canh Tan year (1320), Thuong Hoang (Tran Anh Tong) was buried in the Thai mausoleum in An Sinh"; "Spring, February in the year of Nham Than (1332), who buried Thuan Thanh Bao from the Empress Dowager to the Thai mausoleum...".
King Tran Anh Tong is the 4th king of the Tran dynasty, whose name is Tran Thuyen, son of King Tran Nhan Tong. He was born on September 17, the year of the Rat (1276), at the age of 17 (1293), he was handed the throne by his father, reigned for 21 years, and served as Thai Thuong Hoang for 6 years. On March 16, Canh Than year (1320) died at Trung Quang Palace, Thien Truong Palace, at the age of 47. King Tran Anh Tong is praised by history books as a man of kindness, virtue and determination in his work. During the Tran Dynasty under the reign of King Tran Anh Tong, the country was peaceful and prosperous, the territory was expanded, economic and cultural aspects were developed. He was also a follower of Buddhism, under his reign many temples and monasteries were built. It can be said that the development of the Truc Lam Zen school to the peak of this period was partly due to the support of King Tran Anh Tong and the court. King Tran Anh Tong himself allowed to build or be a benefactor to donate human and financial resources for the construction of works such as Pho Minh tower (Nam Dinh), Quynh Lam Buddhist Institute, Ngoa Van temple... In addition, Mr. He himself and called the palace people, the blood-extracting servants wrote 20 small-sized books of the Tripitaka and stored at Quynh Lam Buddhist Monastery.
Thai mausoleum was built on a low hill called Tan (or forehead) Devil's hill in the heart of a valley where the east, west and north sides are surrounded by high mountains forming a solid throne. The stream covered Am Tra originates from Ngoa Van to the mausoleum area, it flows from East to West, crosses in front of Tan Quy hill and then gathers water on the surface to form a waterway; In the distance is the Cam River winding many bends and beyond are the towering limestone mountains of Kinh Mon area like a large screen covering the mausoleum. All these natural topographical factors have created a favorable position for the mausoleum with the following elements: left dragon fruit, right white tiger, clear water, post-occipital high mountain. Thai mausoleum is located in the heart of Trai Loc lake, An Sinh commune, Dong Trieu town, about 3.5km from An Sinh temple.

In the 21st year of Minh Mang (1840), King Minh Mang erected a stele to remember the location of the tombs of the Tran kings at An Sinh, including Thai mausoleum, the stele is still at the relic. The content of the stele reads: Minh Mang in the first decade of the decade, the ninth lunar month, the first record of the day, serving Tran Anh Tong, the emperor, and the emperor. That is, on September 6, the 21st year of Minh Mang (1840) created (stele) at the tomb of Emperor Tran Anh Tong according to the directive.
The book Dai Nam Nhat Thong Chi says: "Tomb of Dong Thai, Tomb of Tran Anh Tong, the burial of Queen Bao Tu, on the top of a small mountain in Yen Sinh commune, there are still stone dragons and stone steps."
According to the book Tran Trieu, the patriarch of the land map, Dong Thai mausoleum is in Doc Trai commune, Me Son canton, Dong Trieu district, Kinh Mon palace, Hai Duong province. The book redraws the shape and records the content of the stone stele erected in the 21st year of Minh Mang (1840).
Thus, Thai mausoleum or Dong Thai mausoleum are different names for the mausoleum of King Tran Anh Tong and his wife, Queen Bao Tu. In December 1320, King Tran Anh Tong after his death at Thien Truong was brought back to be buried here. In 1332, after her death, Empress Bao Tu was also buried in the Thai mausoleum. Thai mausoleum was the first mausoleum of the Tran dynasty built in An Sinh, then all Tran kings chose An Sinh as the place to build their mausoleum.
The topography and natural landscape of Thai Lang today are very different from the past due to the construction of Trai Loc dam in the late 70s and early 80s of the twentieth century. Trai Loc Dam blocked Am Tra stream, making the whole valley surrounding Tan Quy hill turn into a lake, and at the same time turning Tan Quy hill into a small island in the middle of Trai Loc lake, that's why today people in Trai Loc lake. The area calls this island King Island.
Over time, Thai mausoleum has been destroyed, the remaining traces only remain underground and a few above ground.
In 2007 - 2008, archaeologists excavated the central area of Thai mausoleum, the results of excavations have determined the structure of Thai mausoleum. Accordingly, the center of the mausoleum is located on the top of the hill with a structure consisting of 3 levels of nearly square foundations stacked on top of each other in a pyramidal style. In which the main temple is located in the middle on the highest level, the lower level architectures surround and close to Chinh Tam. There is a Shinto street in front, a ceremony yard and 3 entrances through 3 steps, all of which have stone steps carved with dragons. The entrances on both sides also erected stone railings carved in the shape of a crocodile. The vestiges of the foundation of the architectural works here show that the old Thai mausoleum was very large in size, solidly built with many original architectural works, roofs with lotus nose tiles, on the roof and corners of the roof. Dragon decoration brings the magnificent beauty of Tran royal architecture.

In 2011, the Thai mausoleum was restored and restored, the architectural plan of the Center was preserved underground, the traces of the site discovered by archeology were restored on a higher foundation. Behind the construction of a new building to serve as a place to worship King Tran Anh Tong and Queen Bao Tu. Along with that, other items such as: Reception house, boat dock, parking lot ... are also built synchronously to serve the reception of visitors to visit and worship.
