Ngai Son mausoleum (Tran Hien Tong's mausoleum)

He is recognized by history books as a man with "elite, lucid, peaceful disposition, but he did not stay on the throne for long, did not see any competition". August 16, 1344 was buried in An Lang.
About the location of the tomb of King Tran Hien Tong, there are many different information. The book Dai Viet Su Ky Toan Thu says that King Tran Hien Tong was buried in An Lang Palace Kien Xuong (Thai Binh), and some other books say that he was buried in An Sinh. Through the relics and relics left at Ngai Son mausoleum, archaeologists have proven that Ngai Son mausoleum is a mausoleum of a very large scale and was built in An Sinh right after King Tran Hien Tong. died (1341).
According to the description of Tran Trieu Thanh, the patriarch of the land of the map, the mausoleum has a large scale, the remaining traces include: "The inner floor is two feet long, nine meters (9.57m); 8 meters (2.64m) wide; 1 zhang (3.30 m) high, surrounded by brick walls, each side is 4 zhang 5 m (14.85 m) long and 3 m (1m) thick.
Around the mausoleum, there are still many relics, of which especially a set of stone statues, including statues of mandarins, animals and turtles. This set of statues was originally placed along the two sides of the Shinto axis of the mausoleum in symmetrical pairs, the statue of the mandarin in the standing position, the statues of all kinds were carved in prostrate form. The set of stone statues at Ngai Son mausoleum is not only evaluated as a precious collection of sculpture art from the Tran dynasty, but more importantly, through this set of statues, we know about the axis structure of the Than Dao mausoleum of the Tran dynasty. On both sides there are statues of mandarins and statues of animals standing in adoration.
In addition to animal statues, at Ngai Son mausoleum, there are two stone turtle statues of the Tran Dynasty, including a turtle statue of very large size: 1.57m long; 0.94m wide, 0.34m thick, on the back of the turtle there is a large mortise, showing that this turtle is carrying a beer. In 2002, Mao Khe Coal Company made the merit to rebuild the mausoleum as it is today. However, the restoration of the mausoleum due to the lack of scientific basis did not guarantee the original structure of this mausoleum, and at the same time created a tomb architecture very different from the architecture of the tomb of the Tran dynasty.
In 2016, the People's Committee of Dong Trieu town coordinated with the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi National University) and the Management Board of Monuments and Landscapes of Quang Ninh province to organize Archaeological excavation of Ngai Son mausoleum. This is also the second time that Ngai Son Tomb has been excavated. The mausoleum was excavated for the first time in 2014. The organization of this second archaeological excavation of Ngai Son Tomb is the basis for providing sufficient scientific data for the study and assessment of the location and role of the site. in the system of Tran Dynasty relics in Dong Trieu. From there, proceed to set up an investment project to restore, embellish and restore the monument in the coming time.
